William Hill

William Hill is one of the UK’s most recognised bookmakers, founded in 1934 and one of the first British high street operators to move online back in 1998. Since 2024 the sportsbook has been part of Evoke plc, the group behind 888 Sport and Mr Green, and it operates under UK Gambling Commission account 39028. A new-customer welcome offer is available on the sportsbook — see the offer panel on this page for the current terms, qualifying bet requirement and any promo code needed to claim it.

This review is based on a recent test of the desktop site and the iOS and Android apps, using a live account to check markets, odds, deposit and withdrawal flow, in-play speed, and customer service response times. The sections below cover the welcome offer, sports coverage, WHTV live streaming, mobile experience, banking and the trust signals UK punters actually care about, plus a clear list of where William Hill still falls short.

William Hill at a Glance

  • Licensed by the UKGC (account 39028) and operated by WHG (International) Limited under Evoke plc
  • New-customer welcome offer available on the sportsbook — full terms and any promo code shown in the offer panel on this page
  • 30+ sports covered with particular depth on football, horse racing, tennis and US sports
  • WHTV live streaming for horse racing, greyhounds, selected football and tennis, subject to a funded account or a recent qualifying bet
  • Native app on iOS and Android with a redesigned interface rolled out during 2025
  • Withdrawals generally processed within a couple of days, faster than the industry average
  • Odds tend to sit around the middle of the UK market – reasonable but rarely the sharpest price

Welcome Offer and Ongoing Promotions

William Hill runs a new-customer welcome offer on its sportsbook. Because the exact amounts, qualifying bet size, minimum odds, promo code and free-bet token structure can change, we deliberately do not hard-code those values into this review — the offer panel on this page is updated centrally and always shows the current terms that apply to your location. In general terms, you can expect a Bet and Get style offer where a qualifying sportsbook bet unlocks free bets, with a short expiry window and standard sportsbook market eligibility. Certain payment methods — typically e-wallets and prepaid cards — are excluded from welcome offer eligibility, which is worth checking before you deposit if you rely on a particular wallet.

Under the UKGC rules on UK-licensed bonuses, wagering requirements on any welcome offer are subject to the regulator’s standard cap and William Hill’s free bets comply with the framework. Stakes are not returned when a free bet wins, which is standard across the UK market.

For existing customers, William Hill runs a rolling set of promotions rather than one-off boosts. Price boosts on football and racing appear daily, with the bigger games getting enhanced accumulator offers. Best Odds Guaranteed applies to UK and Irish horse racing plus greyhounds, meaning you get the bigger of your early price or the SP if the SP is shorter. Acca Insurance refunds one-leg losers on football accumulators up to a capped amount, and bore draw money-back is available on the 1X2 market for selected football matches. Bet builder boosts and 2 Up – where a football bet is settled as a winner if your team goes two goals clear at any point – are the two features most regulars use week to week.

Sports Coverage and Markets

William Hill offers betting on around 30 sports, with depth that goes well beyond the headline options. Football has 150+ markets on Premier League and Champions League matches, including full goalscorer markets, bet builder legs down to card and corner totals, and same-game combinations. The bet builder works on pre-match and in-play selections and now supports player prop legs via the Impact Sub feature, which keeps a player prop bet alive when the named player is substituted – the replacement inherits the goal, assist or card requirement.

Horse racing is where the sportsbook earns most of its long-term reputation. All UK and Irish meetings are covered from early prices through to the off, with international action from Meydan, Longchamp, Woodbine, Hong Kong and the main US tracks. Best Odds Guaranteed, Tote pool betting, antepost markets on the Classics and the Cheltenham Festival, and race replays from the William Hill TV service make it one of the stronger racing books in the UK. Greyhound coverage is similarly deep, with BAGS and Irish meetings priced up from first race to last.

Tennis, cricket, golf, rugby union, darts, snooker, boxing and MMA all get solid treatment. US sports – NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL – have become a real focus in recent seasons, partly driven by the group’s US footprint before the stateside William Hill sportsbook was sold to Caesars. Niche markets like specials, entertainment odds and politics still appear when relevant events come up, though the political betting menu is thinner than at Paddy Power.

In-Play Betting and WHTV Live Streaming

In-play betting is available across every major sport, with live odds updating a few seconds behind the action. The in-play interface groups events by sport and shows a live score, key stats and the current market prices side by side. Cash out is offered on most singles and many accumulators, and partial cash out lets you take a portion of the projected return without closing the whole bet.

WHTV is William Hill’s live streaming service and it remains one of the better ones in the UK. All UK and Irish horse racing and greyhounds are streamed free to any funded account, along with a selection of international racing. Tennis from the ATP and WTA tours, football from outside the Premier League and Champions League, basketball, darts and snooker all appear on the streaming schedule. The big gap is top-tier English football – William Hill does not hold Premier League or Champions League streaming rights, so if you want to watch those matches you will need a separate subscription.

Access to WHTV requires either a positive account balance or a recent qualifying bet on your account. Streams play in a resizable window so you can watch and place bets without leaving the event page, and the app version works over 4G and 5G without heavy buffering in our testing.

Mobile App and Desktop Experience

The William Hill app has had a full redesign during 2025 and the current version is a clear step up from the older build. The home screen shows the current welcome offer, a carousel of featured events, and quick links to racing, football and your bet slip. Navigation is tab-based with a bottom bar for your main sports, bet slip and account, and the bet builder opens in a dedicated panel rather than a pop-up overlay. Login supports Face ID and fingerprint, and the app remembers your last sport so you land straight on the markets you actually use.

The iOS version holds a 4.7 star rating on the App Store and the Android app sits at 4.3 on Google Play, both of which put it among the better-rated UK betting apps. We did see the occasional odds refresh lag during a busy Saturday afternoon in-play window, but nothing that forced a restart.

On desktop, the site layout is dense – there is a lot of information on the sportsbook home page – but the A-Z sport menu on the left and the search bar at the top make it easy to jump to the market you want. Pages load quickly on fibre and the bet slip stays anchored to the right-hand side, which keeps focus on your selections while you browse.

Payment Methods, Deposits and Withdrawals

William Hill accepts Visa Debit, Mastercard debit, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard, bank transfer, and the WH PLUS prepaid card. Minimum deposit thresholds vary by method — debit card is the lowest and most e-wallets sit slightly higher — and card deposits are instant. Credit card deposits have been blocked for gambling in the UK since 2020, so the methods above are all debit or balance-based.

Withdrawals usually clear within a day or two once approved. Debit card withdrawals settle back to the card within a couple of working days, PayPal and Skrill typically arrive on the same day once processed, and bank transfers can take a little longer depending on your bank. The one friction point to flag: if you deposited with PayPal or another e-wallet, the welcome offer may not qualify, so plan your deposit method around whether you want the free bets — the offer panel on this page lists which methods are eligible.

Withdrawal KYC verification happens on the first cash-out. You will need to upload a photo ID and a proof of address, and the review usually completes within a few hours during UK business times. Once verified, subsequent withdrawals process without re-verification.

Customer Service and Responsible Gambling

Customer support is available 24/7 via live chat from within your account, along with a Help Centre that covers most account, bet settlement and payment queries without needing to contact an agent. Live chat response times during our tests averaged well under a minute during UK evening hours. Email support is offered for anything requiring evidence or an audit trail, and a UK phone line is available during standard hours.

William Hill is a member of IBAS for independent dispute resolution, which means any unresolved complaint can be escalated to an external adjudicator at no cost to the customer. The site participates in GAMSTOP, the UK self-exclusion scheme, and offers deposit limits, loss limits, time-out periods from one day to six weeks, permanent self-exclusion and reality check alerts. Links to GambleAware and the National Gambling Helpline appear in the footer and within the account settings pages, which is the UKGC’s current expectation for responsible gambling prominence.

Pros and Cons

Where William Hill does well:

  • Long-established brand with a 90+ year trading history and strong UKGC compliance record post-2018 settlement
  • Deep horse racing and greyhound product, including Best Odds Guaranteed and live streaming on all UK and Irish meetings
  • WHTV covers a broad sports menu, not just racing
  • Redesigned 2025 app with Face ID, bet builder panel and a better in-play layout
  • Welcome offer sits toward the upper end of the UK mainstream market on headline value
  • Withdrawals complete faster than most rival bookmakers

Where it still falls short:

  • Odds are mid-market on average rather than sharp – regulars who care about price will usually find better on an exchange or at smaller books
  • Premier League and Champions League live streaming is not available through WHTV
  • Welcome offer excludes a number of payment methods including some popular e-wallets — check the offer panel before depositing
  • Free bet tokens carry a short expiry window and cannot be split across selections
  • The sportsbook home page can feel cluttered compared with cleaner rivals

Is William Hill Safe and Trustworthy?

William Hill is operated by WHG (International) Limited, with its UK-facing sportsbook covered by UK Gambling Commission licence 39028 held by the Evoke plc group. That places all deposits within the UKGC’s segregation rules – customer funds are held separately from operational capital and protected at the Medium level under the UKGC’s published framework. The group also holds a Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner licence covering technical infrastructure.

There is one bit of history to flag. In 2023, before the current ownership arrangement, William Hill’s previous operating entities paid a record settlement to the UKGC over AML and social responsibility failings. Since the Evoke acquisition completed, the operator has tightened its KYC and AML processes, and there have been no further public enforcement actions of that scale. Evoke plc is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange, which adds a layer of financial reporting transparency that smaller, privately-held bookmakers do not offer. One thing to track: in late 2025 Evoke announced a strategic review that could lead to a sale of the group, following changes to UK gambling duty. A change of ownership would not affect the UKGC licence or customer fund protection, but it is a factor if you are choosing a long-term main account.

Who Is William Hill For?

William Hill works best for regular horse racing bettors, football punters who want a broad market menu rather than the sharpest price, and anyone who values a well-built native app over a browser experience. The welcome offer is generous for a Bet and Get structure relative to the UK mainstream, the live streaming covers racing and tennis for free to funded accounts, and the operator’s financial scale means payouts are quick and reliable.

If your priority is the very best odds on every selection, you will do better by holding accounts at a sharper book like Pinnacle or a betting exchange and using William Hill as a secondary account for the streaming, Best Odds Guaranteed racing and the free bet promotions. For most UK punters looking for one well-rounded mainstream account, it remains a reasonable choice in 2026 – particularly if you already prefer its racing product and the new app layout suits how you bet.

What is the William Hill welcome offer?

William Hill runs a new-customer welcome offer on its sportsbook. The current amounts, any promo code, qualifying bet size, minimum odds and free-bet expiry are shown in the offer panel on this page, which is always kept up to date — check there before depositing. Certain payment methods, typically e-wallets and prepaid cards, are usually excluded from welcome offer eligibility.

Is William Hill safe and licensed in the UK?

Yes. William Hill operates under UK Gambling Commission account 39028, held by the Evoke plc group, with WHG (International) Limited as the licensed operator. Customer funds are held separately from operational capital at the UKGC's Medium protection level, and the operator is a member of IBAS for independent dispute resolution. It also takes part in GAMSTOP self-exclusion.

Who owns William Hill in 2026?

William Hill is owned by Evoke plc, the London Stock Exchange-listed group that rebranded from 888 Holdings in May 2024. The non-US William Hill business was acquired from Caesars Entertainment by 888 Holdings in 2022 and has been part of Evoke since the rebrand. The US William Hill sportsbook was retained by Caesars and operates separately.

How long do withdrawals take at William Hill?

Withdrawal requests are usually approved within a day or two. Once approved, debit card payouts settle within a couple of working days, PayPal and Skrill typically arrive the same day, and bank transfers can take a little longer depending on your bank. A one-off KYC verification happens on your first withdrawal and usually completes within a few hours during UK business times.

Does William Hill offer live streaming?

Yes. WHTV is William Hill's live streaming service and it covers all UK and Irish horse racing and greyhounds, plus tennis (ATP and WTA), lower-tier football, basketball, darts and snooker. Access requires either a positive account balance or a recent qualifying bet on your account. Premier League and Champions League football matches are not available via WHTV — those rights sit with other broadcasters.

What sports can I bet on at William Hill?

William Hill covers around 30 sports, with particular depth on football (150+ markets on Premier League matches), UK and Irish horse racing and greyhounds, tennis, cricket, golf, rugby, darts, snooker, boxing, MMA and US sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL). Niche markets like politics and entertainment specials appear during relevant events.

Does William Hill have a good mobile app?

The William Hill app was fully redesigned in 2025. It is available on iOS (4.7 star average on the App Store) and Android (4.3 on Google Play), both of which rate among the higher-scoring UK bookmaker apps. The app supports Face ID and fingerprint login, has a dedicated bet builder panel, and covers the full sportsbook plus WHTV streaming and cash out.

What payment methods does William Hill accept?

William Hill accepts Visa Debit, Mastercard debit, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard, bank transfer and the WH PLUS prepaid card. Minimum deposit thresholds vary by method — debit card is the lowest, with e-wallets typically slightly higher. UK credit card deposits are not accepted for gambling, in line with UKGC rules since April 2020.

Is the William Hill welcome offer worth taking?

The William Hill welcome offer sits toward the upper end of the UK mainstream market for a Bet and Get structure, and it is a fair offer if you bet regularly and can use the free bet tokens within the expiry window shown in the offer panel. The main catch is that certain payment methods are excluded, so you need to use a qualifying deposit method to claim it — current eligible methods are listed in the offer panel on this page.
